MrLame interview
[16:48:46 by Ibsen]
Apollyon, whom most of you probably know from smackdown, has posted an interview with this seasons winner, MrLame. The interview can be found over there.

It was fifi versus the_one_who_is_lame: and it was a tense final!
[01:21:28 by xhrl]
What a final it was! The dm2 game had all the ear-marks of another memorial ten minutes in qw history. But, alas! I am getting ahead of myself...let us begin with the dm4 game. On dm4, which I had expected the_lame_one to win, I was not surprised by mrlame's very unlame beginning; yet fifi looked like he was going to punish the_lame_one for basically setting up a house at the RA: the score inched its way to 4-3. But then the swede began to spawn rape like crazy and soon the score was beyond most players' come back range; the time was running out as well. Yet fifi did make some interesting sneak attacks on the_lame_one to make the game's score more respectable. That said, mrlame held the center area like he was lakerman at the TGI, and his control of the map was never lost for long. It was a good match to get the nervous worked out.

On dm6 fifi came back with a vengeance; though going down early in the game -- and at that point I thought all was lost for Finnish hopes -- fifi made it clear that he knew how to come from behind without the RA and take away what mrlame thought to be his: map control. In tight areas, fifi was astounding, somehow never losing lame's whereabouts and seemingly fragging the_lame_one at will; even mrlame thought it was "too easy" in the console. fifi's smart prediction shots must have been frustrating for lame, being so accurate and almost never allowing lame to sneak anywhere. It was a nice come from behind victory for fifi; and there can no disputing that fifi really had the "sch-wag" on dm6.

***SPOILER WARNING***

On dm2 things were tense initially.The_lame_one went ahead briefly 1-0 but fifi wasted lame soon after to tie it up. It was cat and mouse, tanking up time for a while; and then lame broke the game open with a sweet frag and a quick rape to bring the result to 3-1; things were tense for the Finnish fans at this point. However, fifi was not to be left without hope; very quickly he out-witted mrlame and then raped him to suddenly get to a 4-3 lead! Though lame was not to be denied...fifi and lame exchanged a few more frags to tie the game 5-5 with about 1.5 minutes left. At this point I thought both players would play for overtime; but this was not to be: fifi got himself trapped by the_one_who_is lame beneath the upper rl and, though he nearly escaped on lame, he was fragged to make it 6-5. Then mrlame played out the remaining seconds knowing that fifi was going to chase him come rockets or lava. It was tense right to the end of this brilliantly played game...that is, of course, if like solid tactics.

I wish strength and honour to both competitors!

Finals
[01:54:32 by ParadokS]
Last night ended the Duelmania deadline for semifinals. Wich means today we can bring the 4 finalists for the 2 playoff Finals.
First playoffs A. finalists were finally decided when mrlame defeated magma in 2 exciting rounds.
mrlame earned himself a spot in the Playoffs A. finals, where he will be facing fifi from finland. We have seen him do amazing stuff the last few matches,
and i am looking forward to this match like pussy before im 22.
The game has yet not be scheduled, but you will all know as soon as that happends. We will make sure there is sufficient observer spots on our Qizmo cams, so those who want, can follow the game firsthand.

In the other playoffs we had a nice match a few hours later between finnish Dedi and swedish Hagge. Dedi suffered from a pretty bad connection but still managed to pull through.
This leaves an all finnish final in Playoffs B. Dedi will face fuka.
This game has already been scheduled to Tuesday the 8th. of july. An exact time is not certain, but it will be played sometime during the evening. So be sure to be around for an observer spot!

We in the Duelmania crew wishes all 4 finalists the best of luck.

Sunday July 7th 2002

Magma marches over _|anne to the semis! +other news
[14:18:38 by Vertigo]
Magma and _|anne played their quarterfinal match tonight and the score was something else everybody expected! Magma took everything out from his challenger-role and played with a great selfconfidence, which lead straight for victory. Let's see if the match admin Xhrl could do a more detailed report of this big game.

Another news is that Rock and Fifi managed to play their 1/8 finals match and Fifi won it straight 2-0. Report isn't available yet, due to false keypress by an admin. This will be fixed soon as possible.

And last but not least: Quarterfinals deadline is tomorrow 24:00CET. Hang around at #duelmania if you want to spectate the upcoming quarterfinals matches. Cams included!

One player missing from Quarterfinals
[17:19:53 by Vertigo]
Fifi-Rock 1/8 pair winner will be decided in a match tomorrow, deadline 20CET. Mirage will meet the winner of this duo and he gave them one day extra to solve which player is the better one, in a cost of another quarterfinals gaming day for him - this I would call good quakemanship!

Winner will be decided by walkover if required, so Mirage doesn't have to sacrifice more of his Quarterfinals time.

Sunday June 30th 2002
Deadlines pushed!
[21:56:36 by RigorMortis]
Due to the fact that many players won't be able to play their games before the deadline is reached, we have decided to extend the deadline for the 1/8 finals with 24 hours.

The new deadline will therefor be set to MONDAY 1st 24:00 CET.

Please note that this change won't affect the quarterfinal or the other finals deadlines.

Deadlines for the remaining rounds
[17:14:02 by Vertigo]
Quarterfinals: Thursday 4.7 24:00CET

Semifinals: Sunday 7.7 24:00CET

Final: Sunday 14.7 24:00CET

If you have problems of playing in these timelines, please contact admins about it. You can play your matches as soon as you're set with an opponent, so you don't have to wait for the deadline to expire before you play quarter- or semi-finals.

Screenshots functional again
[17:13:46 by Ibsen]
During our move to the new host for the Duelmania website, we unfortunately lost a few screenshots, as it seems some matches were reported after the files had been copied to the new server. I am sorry to say these files can not be recovered.
Also, we later experienced problems with screenshots uploading. This was due to different configuration from the old system. It is now fixed, so you can report your matches correctly with screenshots again.

Quarterfinals approaching.
[17:52:53 by cara]
In order for you to play the quarterfinals, you must contact an admin before the game. The admin will make sure that demos is recorded, so everybody can see who won, and also if screenshots needs to be taken afterwards for the reporting on the page. The admin will also be there in order to make everything go well and help solving problems such as server issues.

Contact the admins before you decide to play your game.

Saturday headlines
[16:18:57 by Vertigo]
Deadline for 1/8 finals is tomorrow at 24:00CET so if you have your game still waiting, schedule it soon to avoid double walkover.

Our screenshot-system is down and it's going to be fixed as soon as we get our webmaster online. You still can report your matches normally, screenshots just won't show in public.

At the moment we have half of quarterfinalists ready and those m4dskilled duellers are: _|anne, Magma, Mirage and Hib.

I've noticed that Duelmania2 demos have been downloaded quite a lot, although players have sent demos only from a minority of the played games. I counted the amount of downloads of all posted Duelmania2 demos and the amount was truly amazing while thinking that playoffs have "just" started and the most important games are on their way still. Guess how much? 3485 downloaded Duelmania2 demos so far, the most popular one being the clash between ]SR[ParadokS and L from clan Z DM4 round with 305 downloads.

So keep on recording and posting your matchdemos, spectators are desperate to see some serious duelmania action!

1/8 Finals & next deadline & more
[15:45:08 by Vertigo]
Duelmania2 1/8 finals can now be started and you can check your opponent/pairings from the reSults section.

Deadline for 1/8 finals is set to 30th of June, which is next sunday.

1/16 went really well except two pairs (Rat-L / Xterm-Pulsen) didn't give proper info about their situation and result of those will be determined later tonight, so don't wonder why there's still two players missing in Playoffs A 1/8 finals. Playoffs B 1/16 round was an WO-orgy since there was 12 players who didn't play a single groupgame and didn't receive a place in playoffs. Now in Playoff B 1/8 Finals we're about to see some real playoffs whacking, because those inactive guys aren't hanging around as ghosts (few straight WO's still left: Jupe, Mazer and Past).

Some stats here, I know you like it:

Highest seeded players still playing in Playoffs A:

Seeding level 1: Paradoks, Hib
Seeding level 2: Mrlame, Rock^, _|anne

Lowest seeded players still playing in Playoffs A:

SL 7: Goblin
SL 5: Magma

Highest seeded players still playing in Playoffs B:

SL4: Griffin
SL5: Drejfus

Lowest seeded players still playing in Playoffs B:

SL 7: Fuka, Hagge, Ilari, Abo, Eh, Bite, Flagg

Midsummer - 1/16th Deadline.
[16:27:02 by ParadokS]
We are sorry the deadline section is outdated, and do not show the current Deadline. The 1/16th. deadline was however posted in a previous news, so this is a reminder. The 1/16th. deadline is due to Monday the 24th. 24.00 CET. So i advice all of you, who haven't played your playoff game yet, to get going :)
Midsummer is over now, and I hope we can get some decent games, with or without hangovers.

We am still getting about 40% reports without sreenshots, or people who thinks renaming *.pcx to *.jpg/gif works. It don't !!!

If you don't have a program to convert your pictures with, you can download it here.
And I also made a video wich explains how to crop/convert GL screenshots wich you can download here

Also we have a small technical problem with our tables. This means you can NOT post any 1/8th. final matches at this point. We will post news here and at #duelmania as soon as everything is back to normal.

As always you can see the latest matches played to your right, followed by a link underneath, wich will lead you directly to chtv's Duelmani2 demo section.

First playoffs A matches played!
[21:24:08 by Vertigo]
Playoffs have started really well with three superb clashes. Hib had hard times with Zhin but still had enough guts to win the match tightly 2-1 after dm6 decider. Report from that match isn't yet available due one small bug in our websystem, which has been fixed now though. Hopefully Hib/Zhin could make a new report soon. Janne has known to be one of the favourites in this tourney and he proofed it by claiming a victory over Buggy 2-0 straight. Third beatdown we've had so far was Fifi-Aptiva. DM2 wasn't very intresting one while Fifi won it rather easily, but dm6 was truly a spectacle. Aptiva was already winning it before Fifi made the last minute comeback and won the map by one frag, thanks to his titanic nerves. Reports at reSults -> Playoffs A -> 1/16 finals.

Hib, Fifi and Janne go to the next round.

Playoffs 1/16th kickoff/deadline
[22:56:46 by ParadokS]
Each group standings are now official and playoffs pairings are ready. There's intresting duels coming up in the Playoffs A, here's a few good examples: ParadokS-Gamer, Arnette-Dare and Hib-Zhin! Check out those at reSults -> Playoff A -> 1/16 finals.
On the other side of the league, in Playoffs B, many players will go straight to 8th finales, since their opponents have idled themselves out of the league.
Deadline for 1/16 finals is set to be next monday 24th of June. This long first round is only because of the midsummer party we scandinavians have and it's less likely that Duelmania2 1/16 finals would be played during those days.

You can start playing your playoffs matches now and the matchreporting goes just the same way as before. Please record demos and upload those to challenge-tv, which is supporting us with hd space for demos, thank you!

Group games have finished
[00:05:38 by Ibsen]
The deadline for groupgames in duelmania second season has been reached, and no further matchreports will be accepted. Unfortunately there are quite a few matches left unplayed, as several players have been inactive during groupgames. Due to this fact, it will in some cases not be immediately obvious who will proceed to which playoff before the leftover matches have been taken care of. Look back for an update this evening (Monday evening).

Saturday June 15th 2002
Groupgames deadline approaching
[19:37:47 by Vertigo]
So far we've seen 44 matches in the groupgames and some of the Playoffs A spots has been filled already, but most of them are still open and waiting for the remaining games to be played.

Groupgames deadline is tomorrow at 24:00 CET and the race for playoffs A spots is about to reach it's climax. I wish good luck everyone for your remaining games!

GL Screenshots.
[02:28:19 by ParadokS]
We have recieved a few reports containing GL screenshots that were not cropped/formated, as we have sked for in the rules section. Perhaps we did not make ourselfs clear, or you do not understand english. Either way I took the liberty to make a little movie, wich should explain the proccess visually, so even _Kelvin can understand :)

Click here to download the movie (~2minutes @ 1.8mb)

Click here if your unable to watch the movie, due to the lack of codecs.

Any requests or feedback regarding this movie may be adressed to ParadokS.

The clean sheet crew going for playoffs A
[19:57:42 by Vertigo]
Now when there's 32 reported games, only three people have a clean sheet after 2 played games: xterm, _|anne and hib. They've now claimed playoffs A position by this great start.

Xterm's last match is against Sod!, _|anne meets nabbe and hib tries to get his third 2-0 victory when he meets Jupe. Every final opponent of theirs seems to be a quality player, so it's going to be a hard job for them to keep their clean sheet in groupgames.

Tuesday June 11th 2002
Bite shows us great initiative.
[21:20:07 by cara]
Bite was the first player who played all his groupgames and reported them correctly. He only needed 2 days to complete the first round of the league. The admin crew congratulates Bite for his achievement and we hope others will follow his example. At the moment Bite has 5 points and is placed 2nd in his starting group and holds the second playoffs A position in the group 13.

More about matchreporting
[01:00:54 by ljuglampa]
We (the admins) can now accept matchreports and I have approved the ones that past my hard but fair demands.. :)
Some send GL shots with 640x480 resolution. That will not be tolerated, but the 'decline' option doesn't work yet.
You, whom have sent in reports that won't be accepted will be notified what's wrong and be asked to rereport.

We're all very thankful to Ibsen who's doing a great job on the php without recieving any payment or such for his efforts! GG!

Link resigns plus more about reporting matches
[18:34:17 by Vertigo]
Link has resigned as an admin due to personal reasons. One man less in the admin squad won't have any effect on players side and Duelmania2 is still going full ahead.

So far we've 23 matchreports although our system isn't even 100% ready yet, which means we're still unable to make those reports online, but our mighty webmaster Ibsen has been working really long hours with it and it's going to be ready any day now, and that's a fact.

There's some matchreports uploaded with .pcx screens, which means no one can see those with their web browsers, so I ask you all check rules out and change the format from .pcx to .gif or .jpg before posting a report from your match, thank you! Reports submitted containing screenshots with wrong filetype or format will be deleted, and the report will appear in your list of 'scheduled' matches again. You will then have to fill out the report all anew, with valid pictures.

Report matches
[15:10:53 by Ibsen]
I am sorry for the delay, but matchreports can now be submited. As you can see a link has been provided above for User login. The reports submited will not immediately be displayed on the duelmania website, but will need authorization from one of the admins first. We are aware that many games have allready been played, so you might expect it to take a day or two before those games appear on the site.

The complexity of the code is ever growing, and the system is made completely from scratch, so I would appreciate it if any bugs are reported as soon as possible to me, so we can get them fixed.

Friday June 7th 2002
Start playing your group matches
[00:41:38 by Link]
Group drawings have been made and all 16 groups are up. This means you can start playing your matches. The match report system is not 100% up, but it will be done sometime on Friday 7th of June (tomorrow), we will post it in #duelmania topic when it is ready.

Deadline for getting all 3 matches played is Sunday 16th of June, this means 10 days to play 3 matches. We may stretch that deadline a couple of days, but if the original deadline is held, then we can finish DuelMania2 before the second week of July hits us, if there is one month in the year we don?t play qw, then that month is July for sure...

We apologise for the web not being 100% before we did the group drawings, but if we want to finish DuelMania2 before the second week of July comes, then we needed to rush it a little, so that players can start and play asap. Player profiles work now, so if you don?t find your enemy on IRC, then you got their e-mail there.

Submitting demos will also be explained tomorrow on the upload page.

DuelMania participants selected/drawn
[00:15:01 by Ibsen]
The 64 players that are to participate in DuelMania² have been selected/drawn.

The DuelMania admins made the selection/draws tonight, and this is how we did it: as you know, 32 players were invited, then we selected out 3 more players to make it 35. This left 29 spots to be filled. We declined all players that were not from no/se/dk/fi (if youwant to know why ask us in #duelmania), and some players we thought would have a really hard time to even get frags at all(please sue us, our laywers would be delighted). After this we had 47 players left to choose from, and 29 players were randomly drawn to fill the remaining spots.

One DuelMania admin that wanted to participate didn?t get drawn out of the lottery hat, so if anyone wants to whine about a backoffice that constructed the draw to get the players they wanted?you got another thing coming. We couldn?t do it in any other way to get it fairer. All we can say is that we hope that DuelMania² will be a success, so that we can expand the player limit in DuelMania³. There are many good duellers that didn?t get drawn out to participate :/

All 64 players have been set up in the seeding levels, made ready for the LIVE group draw 20.00 (cet) on Tuesday 4th of June at #duelmania. The seeding levels was partly selected and partly drawn. Press here to look at the seeding levels.

If you still don?t understand how the groups will be set/drawn, then I suggest you go to the rules section and read what you should have read before you signed up. And if you don?t understand it, read it again.

When you look at all the players participating in this event, all I can say: no group will be easy! It looks, as this will be something special, at least we hope so.

What are you doing Tuesday 4th of June at 20.00 (cet) ?

Signups, group drawings and tournament start-up
[02:32:57 by Link]
Because of the huge interest DueMania2 got, we already have over 100 signed up players. We don?t have the time/manpower to do a 128-player tournament this time, as explained in the rules. With the big interest players have showed for this tournament, we will, sorry to say, disappoint just as many as we will please, so we are closing signups Sunday 2nd of June, less than 48 hours away. Maybe we can please ?everybody? in DuelMania3, at least that is what?s going to happen if DuelMania2 turns out good.

Seeding levels of the 64 lucky players will be done Monday and group drawings will happen some time around 20.00-21.00 that same day, LIVE on #duelmania. Before that time, everybody will get a mail saying: approved or declined :/ In theory, this means you can start to play on Tuesday (if our superb webmaster has time to make the web ready for it).

We invited 32 players (they are included in the signup-list) and we will do a 100% lottery of the remaining 32 spots, with some exceptions. We have not decided yet if we will accept players from outside no/se/dk/fi, we will make a decision on that asap. There are only 2 DuelMania admins that is on the invite-list, so the rest of the admins that want to play will ALSO be in that lottery-hat, we will do this 100% fair, no matter what. So if you get declined, don?t be mad at us, we only do this because we love qw.

May the force be with you (I know?I will die alone)

DuelMania back for good
[03:15:28 by Link]
As you can see, the site is not 100% done yet, but we thought we should inform you all what is going on with DuelMania.

After Supa and Sleiv among with other admins made the first DuelMania happen, then offical duels on Internet were ?dead?. DuelMania was such a great idea that some of us wanted to keep it alive, with the ambition to make DuelMania the best quakeworld 1on1 competition on Internet. So we want to take it a step forward in the right direction, and make this web a great community site for duel play. Be sure to check in on #duelmania on quakenet.

This is how we see the next DuelMania tournament and future DuelMania?s;

All 64 players are seeded
64 players in 16 groups, 4 players in each group, everybody plays each other in the group. #1 and #2 in each group to playoff A - #3 and #4 in each group to playoff B. Playoffs are a 32-player single knock out tournament. Playoff A is for the top 32 players, Playoff B is for the remaining 32 players.

Water proof system
Players from same group will not meet again unless they both go to the final. If all the top seeded players win their games, they will not meet before its inevitable; 16 top players don?t meet before 1/8 finals, 8 top players don?t meet before 1/4 finals etc.

Playoffs not only for the best
We want everybody to have fun, so playoff B is 100% similar to Playoff A, it is just players #3 and #4 from each group instead of #1 and #2. We want an active tournament, not only ?who is the best? tournament. This means we also get all 64 players seeded after ended tournament.

DuelMania never stops
When DuelMania 2 is over, Duelmania 3 starts. All players are seeded, so we can start the next tournament right away. New players who want to enter plays qualification against the lowest seeded players, and take their seed-spot if they win the qualification. If DuelMania is too little for 64 players, we expand number of players in group stages.

This was just some short info about what?s happening. We are bringing up a full web, rules and signup for DuelMania 2 As Soon As Possible.

-xhrl

Duelmania2 A final tonight!

This is how we see the next DuelMania tournament and future DuelMania?s;

Duel ownz?..(just spawn good)
