1. Signup

DuelMania is open for all European QuakeWorld players. However, non-European players are free to sign up as long as they play their matches in Europe. Upon registration you will be given a username and password, this is for reporting matches and is unique for each player, so don't lose it or give it away. Players with multiple registration entries will be disqualified.

2. Allowed clients / rulesets

  • ezQuake (>= 3.0) with ruleset smackdown or qcon
  • FodQuake (>= 0.2) with ruleset eql
  • FTE (>= 1.00) with ruleset nqr

3. Game settings

  • Timelimit 10 minutes
  • DMM3
  • No powerups

4. Maps

Allowed maps are DM2, DM4, DM6, AEROWALK and ZTNDM3. If both players agree they can decide to play the 2020 remix of a map.

The higher seeded player is marked with an asterisk in the "Next match" section of the User panel.

Best-Of-Three Matches (BO3)

A regular match in the running season is BO3. The higher seeded player (P1) decides if he wants to pick first and toss second, or vice versa.

Example

  • P1 decides to pick the first map
  • The next map is picked by P2
  • If a third map is necessary, four of the five maps in the map pool have to be tossed. The order in which the players toss is P2-P1-P2-P1. The remaining map is played.

Best-Of-Five Matches (BO5)

In the winners, losers and grand finals the match will be BO5. Each map can be played only one time.The higher seeded player (P1) decides if he wants to pick first or second.

Example

  • P1 decides that P2 has to pick the first map
  • The next map is picked by P1
  • The next map is picked by P2
  • The next map is picked by P1
  • If a fifth map is necessary the remaining map is played

5. Reporting

The winner of the match reports the results as soon as possible using the "Report Match" function on the DuelMania page. Screenshots of each map must also be uploaded and can be in any format.

6. Servers

Since there are players representing many different nations in DuelMania, be prepared to play with higher ping than you're used to. In general the game can be played on any server both players agree to play on. The DuelMania Admins insist that the players' server choice is done with common sense and that pings are kept as low as possible.

Players from outside of Europe have to play on a European server (e.g. US players should probably use london or dublin servers). Their opponent is required to ping up to 51ms to make the match a bit more even.

A list of servers can be found on QuakeServers.net.

If players still can't agree on a server, please contact admins about it.

7. Scheduling

All matches have a deadline. If players can't organize themselves to get their game played and reported by the end of the deadline, WO will be given to the player that tried more actively to make the match happen. To that end, it's best if you try to schedule your match in the official #duelmania channel on the QuakeWorld Discord.

In order to guarantee some coverage of the bigger games, the schedules for Top 8 matches have to be arranged with an admin.

8. Tournament system

DuelMania uses a double elimination bracket with the initial seeding into the winners bracket done manually by the admins to their best knowledge. Players who lose their winners bracket game are knocked down into the losers bracket and get one more chance to play.
