Although we originally imagined that the next DuelMania season should start sometime in March, I don't think it's necessary to start another duel tournament in this moment in time.

Right now, we have Besmella.Quake by dirtbox over here at quakeworld.tourney.cc and Thunderdome which is a division-based duel tournament by VVD and QuakePhil at quakephil.com/thunderdome.

I'm very happy to see that they have 123 signups for Thunderdome! It's awesome that the scene is waking up again...

I updated the DuelMania site to a new version of phpTourney that contains a few bugfixes. You can grab a copy over here: phpTourney-0.8.9.

As a side effect all users got logged out, since a bug regarding cookie handling was fixed. If you have any trouble logging in, send me a message!

My apologies for the late news entry, but unfortunately the grand final coincided with me being abroad for a couple of days. I hope all of you (players and spectators) enjoyed the grand final and the tournament in general.

Me not being in my "home base" prevented me from actually seeing the grand final, but I'll make sure to grab the demos and enjoy them later this evening. Anyhow, the DuelMania team would like to congratulate Rikoll for playing what can only be described as a sovereign tournament!

On a sidenote: It's not a simple task to come back after a 5 year hiatus, as well as having way more RL commitments these days. So, we had to kinda ease back into the task of running a tournament again. In any case, the future plans go something like this:

• More regular seasons (every March and September seems like a good start)
• Better coverage (especially commentary and video streams)
• Site improvements (the brackets really need an update)

...the tournament approaches its hot phase now. We're just waiting one more day to get the remaining matches of last round played. No worries, all the players are available, but just weren't able to find a schedule that fits. Well, except kingpin who hasn't been online in quite a while. If anybody knows something about his whereabouts, please let us know. For now, we had to give WO to nit, which is a pity considering that the match was one of the quarter finals, but what can you do...

One last thing: we urge players to tell us their match schedules from now on, so that we can at least announce it on IRC for the people's speccing pleasure. Thanks!

Ok, the matches of week 2 are finally played which brings us to week 3.

The tournament will gain some speed, since the losers' bracket has now two rounds per week. I hope that the players in the LB can handle it, so that we can keep momentum. Up to now there weren't any big surprises, except maybe that VVD has sent maga to the LB. In general the 16 players left in the WB are more or less the ones we expected.

Starting with next round we will try to get a better coverage. Meaning: we will try to squeeze some schedules out of the players, so that we can enjoy the matches live.

There were quite some walkovers now in Round 1. We generally don't like that, but we also think it's important that DuelMania stays alive and doesn't get stalled by idle players.

Here are some guidelines that will help us to make the right decision about walkovers:

• Query an admin (preferably eb) to inform him that you can not get hold of your opponent (just spamming a message into #duelmania might get lost)

• Be online as much as possible (especially on the last day of the deadline, because we will actively try to reach you)

We will report all missing matches on the last day of the deadline, except both players scheduled the match for a later date and the next opponent is fine with that.

We've seeded the players and created the brackets. In the winners' bracket you have one week to play your games. Every round ends on sunday. In the losers' bracket you have alternatively 4 and 3 days to play your games, except in the first round, which has 7 days.

Also make sure to review the rules section. Thanks to JohnNy_cz for pointing out a couple of mistakes and outdated parts. If you have any requests or doubts, message us for clarification.

Its highly recommend that you use some kind of IRC client to get in touch with your opponents or admins early. Entering #duelmania channel has never been a bad idea, since this is the fastest way to provide you with support in any situation. Nearby it helps us whenever we have to make a decision for a walkover. If you wont install any clients like mIRC on your PC, then use this free webbased chattool please! Yep, after a more than 5 years of break DuelMania is back with a 1on1 QuakeWorld tournament. This time we teamed up with the crew over at Ownage to bring you another fine duel event.

To give you a brief summary: Signups are open now and will run until the 18th of September. And we plan on starting the first round on the 19th of September. We decided not to do any experiments with the map pool. So, you will have the standard pool of dm2, dm4, dm6, aerowalk and ztndm3. I copied the ruleset from the previous season, so there might be some aspects that are outdated. Please let us know about any doubts you might have.
