I guess that's it then -- Thursday, July 19 2001, 09:26 pm
After some discussion with a fellow admin, we have come to a conclusion to end this "season". Because Acid has been nowhere to found for, the winner will be Vana.

Vana played a great tourney dropping some of the "favorite" players, and winning Zhin 2-1 in the loser brackets final game, and truly deserves to win.

It's sad the situation had to come down to this, but there wasn't any options left. Acid had made sure of that. This might seem a bit cruel dissing a player like this, but in my opinion Acid deserves all the dissing he can get. Me, Sleiv and Vertigo worked really hard to make this a good tourney, and to see it all dimishing like this in the end, is well.. fucked up really.

We'd like to thank everyone involved. There were some great games played, and great demos recorded for us speccies. I will soon update the demo archive to include all of the demos, but for now you can check www.challenge-tv.com for the complete demo list.

We haven't made any plans for season 2... yet, but everything is possible. If there will be a second season, we'll let you know :)

Finals -- Saturday, July 7 2001, 02:49 pm
Well well. A lot of time has went since my last update, and sadly I have nothing new to tell you.

At the moment it seems pretty uncertain that we will even have a final game.. Acid and Vana haven't been able to agree on a date, actually I don't know if theyīve spoken at all.

To my knowledge this situation all comes down to Acid. Vana's been around at irc, willing to play, but Acid is simply nowhere to be found. It's a shame this situation has come down to this, but sometimes things just don't go on as planned.

We've waited for several weeks now without a hint of a possible final. I just don't see it coming anymore.

w00t! -- Tuesday, June 19 2001, 02:35 pm
And so it happened, that Vana beat Zhin in 2-0 rounds, and progressed to final to play against Acid.

The situation is this.. Vana needs to win two games in a row to win DuelMania, but Acid only needs one victory. That's because Acid hasn't lost a single game, and you need two losses to drop out from tournament.

The final game between Acid vs Vana hasn't been arranged yet. We've tried, as has Vana, but with no results yet..

"First final" of loosers bracket played -- Sunday, June 3 2001, 07:52 pm
Zhin vs Fifi was played today and it ended 2-1 for zhin. Game started with dm4 (zhinīs map) and zhin pretty much controlled the whole round with very nice moves and aim.

Fifiīs map was dm6. Zhin got nice spawns (mh+ra) and controlled few first minutes. After zhin made the first mistake fifi immediately punished for that and took control of the game. Fifi kept control almost till the end so it was 1-1 now, and dm2 as the decider.

DM2 started pretty slowly. Then zhin got the first frag and started playing rather defensively. Fifi managed to kill zhin, but soon died after dipping in the lava. It was 2-1 and fifi was once again chasing zhin. But the game stayed like that to the end. Zhin was really close to get killed in the last few seconds, surviving only with ~30h, but thats plenty. :)

GG

Check out at #duelmania for next games and proxy ip:s

The winner comes from Finland ;) -- Sunday, May 27 2001, 10:09 pm
Games have progressed very well, and we are back on schedule. Finals should be played in 2 weeks.

We have made a slight modification to rules concerning final games. In final games of both brackets (meaning the last games in the brackets, not the FINALS) both players must choose different maps, so 3xdm4 is impossible. In winners bracket acid vs vana/rat is the first game to use this rule..

Also check out demos, good ones out there once again.

WO's given. -- Sunday, May 13 2001, 11:52 pm
It seems that people really hasn't get the point that DuelMania requires 2 matches played in the losers bracket in one week. Therefore we were forced to give plenty of WO's tonight but thanks to the really big amount of 'em we just gave WO's from one round. This means Losers bracket is now 1 match behind of it's schedule and I know im not the only person who's asking a bit more activity for upcoming rounds. DuelMania match lasts below 40 minutes max and it really shouldnt be a problem. Check results page for updated brackets.

Uh -- Thursday, May 10 2001, 08:13 pm
Okay, this concerns players in the losers bracket. There are several games that have not been played yet, and thatīs a real shame. The whole losers bracket is falling behind because of you, please try to get the games played before the deadlines.

The following matches need to be played before this sunday:
vore vs jupe
mrlame vs gore
wang_tai vs hude
omny vs mirage
dare vs ihminen
primus vs control
tripod vs bamsen
phana vs stalk
milton vs dexter
hib vs scenic
jackal vs wuffel

Losers Bracket -- Tuesday, May 8 2001, 12:08 am
From now on losers bracket must play two matches in one week! That is because loosers bracket has twice as much matches as winners bracket, and with current pace this league would take 9 more weeks.

Try to get your games played in time, because one player can slow down the whole league :(

Third round -- Monday, May 7 2001, 04:13 pm
Third round has started and we have seen plenty of great games so far, but the most exciting matches are still to come. There's now 16 players left in winners bracket and 32 in losers bracket, which means double amount of matches for the losers. We've been thinking of setting different deadlines for each bracket, but more info about it later. Now I suggest you all to check out these demos which can be found at download section - awesome action.

First round played. -- Monday, April 30 2001, 01:32 am
We have finally finished round 1, and round 2 is ready to start. Deadline for round 2 is once again next sunday, one duel in one week should be suitable for everyone.

There were 2 WO:s given, that is pretty lame :( I hope that this time everyone can play their matches. And if someone has demos of first round send them to challenge-tv (read download page for instructions)

Demo arrangements -- Sunday, April 29 2001, 01:14 am
Thanks to challenge-tv and Donking, we have finally fixed the demo issue. From now on you should find demos from the download page. Players who want to send demos of their games (everybody should!) should do following: first compress your demo into .qwz format (-> start -> run C:\path\to\qizmo\qizmo.exe -C C:\path\to\quake\demo.qwd) Then email your demo as an attachment to donking@challenge-tv.com, and put duelmania in the topic!

There has been really good games played so everyone should really check the demos.

There are still 6 games from first round remaining, it would be good to have them played before monday, because we are going to start round 2 then. People in loser bracket should also play their first games sometime during the next week. There has been almost 7 days time to play one duel, if that has been impossible we will have to take fresh players in who can get the job done!

Paradoks out, mingle in -- Thursday, April 26 2001, 08:21 pm
Qizmo-rule was too much for this Denmark's number 1. player and he asked us to remove him from the league. He prefers using this new MQWCL thing and I respect his decision not to participate in this league. Mingle was the first leftover from DuelMania and now he's in, meeting swedish Reverend in round 1 match. Good luck.

Deadline for first round. -- Thursday, April 26 2001, 05:35 pm
We have decided that deadline for first round is next sunday (29.4). I think everyone should be able to play one duel in four days. If thatīs impossible we will have to replace you with a new player since there are many players who didnt fit in the original 64..

More games have been played, you can check the screenshots and charts from the reSults page. Demos are still unavailable since we havent got a decent server for them. So if you think you could help us with that one plz email me.

uh -- Monday, April 23 2001, 09:59 pm
Few issues... Remember to take screenshots of each round, but please don't mail us any screenshots. You should be able to upload screenshots later tomorrow (tuesday).

Also remember to have fun & don't play too seriously. Quake should be all about fun. Respect your opponent too, you should consider that some players will only be able to play at nights (cable modemers for example). Annndd.. that's the end of the moral lesson ;)

Thunderbirds are go!! -- Monday, April 23 2001, 08:19 pm
We have drawn the pairs, and the first round is ready to start. There are few issues i would like everyone to remember, you cant start playing round 2 before we say so, no matter how ready you and your opponent are. And everyone should read the rules one more time, especially the double elimination link.. Good luck for everybody and M4dFr4gg1ng!

Yiihaa -- Sunday, April 22 2001, 11:14 pm

About servers -- Saturday, April 21 2001, 08:31 pm
Since most of the players are from finland, and this competition was planned for finnish people primary, all games will be played at eDome servers. Unless of course both players are from somewhere else and know a better server for both..

You can catch us on quakenet at #duelmania.

64 players -- Saturday, April 21 2001, 08:06 pm
Okeydokey. So we're aiming for a 64 player tournament, se keep sending those e-mails. If we don't get enough players for the 64-player tourney, we'll just include the 32 who joined first. Over and out...

32 vs 64 players? -- Saturday, April 21 2001, 06:16 pm
We've had lots of queries whether this tournament should be played with 64 players. There are some issues still unresolved, but for now, if you want to join this tourney, send e-mail to duelmania@myrealbox.com. If we get 64 people to join, we might as well have them play too?
